About The Author
Brandon DeWitt is a writer and board-certified prosthodontist who restores smiles, rebuilds patients’ trust in care, and mentors dental residents. He served a two-year LDS mission in Sendai, Japan, and later graduated magna cum laude from Brigham Young University with a degree in the humanities. He earned his dental degree from SUNY Buffalo and completed specialty training at the University of Minnesota. His writing is shaped by enduring interests in memory, imagination, longing, and the stories people inherit before they know how to question them. Hillside Boy is his debut memoir.
About The Book
Brandon DeWitt grows up on Hillside Drive beneath the shadow of Mount Olympus, in a world of church pews, comic books, and playground kingdoms. In a culture that prizes obedience and the quiet ambition of becoming worthy, he learns early how quickly tenderness can turn to embarrassment — and how easily performance can masquerade as strength.
As he comes of age in 1980s and 1990s Utah, Brandon begins a steady ascent: academically, socially, and spiritually. He trades vulnerability for brilliance and mistakes distance for power.
